The fourteen day itinerary of the Niebrugges Christmas cruise allowed only half-day in Cartagena. The ship arrived on Christmas day when most businesses were closed. The artist and her husband joined 20 other passengers, several who spoke fluent Spanish, to hire a guide with a van to take them on a personal tour of Old Town. 
It was lovely to not fight crowds and hawking vendors and be able to casually view the beautiful historic structures along the many squares in this old city. A few stops along the way to sample Colombia beer gave a refreshing break in the 90 degree weather. Back on board ship a traditional Christmas dinner was served with turkey and dressing, finished with delicious pie. Christmas carols were sung in the atrium before an evening of outstanding entertainment in two comfortable theaters. Christmas eve and Christmas day church services were also available on board. It was indeed an unique and unforgettable day.
