Original painting “Four Iris” watercolor/acrylic on rag paper SOLD
Wild iris grow abundantly during June along the Glenn Highway in the wetlands near Eklutna, Alaska. The grounds and gardens surrounding the studio of Alaska artist Gail Niebrugge feature this plant prominently. It is a stunning, colorful, hardy northern native and can be found from the Brooks Range down the Alaska panhandle to Northern British Columbia. It grows on tall a stalk with clusters of swordlike growing from the bottom. In the fall during strong winds the seed capsules break open and are distributed broadly. New plants will not flower for several years. This open edition giclee print is reproduced on acid free paper, and is hand signed by the artist Gail Niebrugge.
