Which Brand of Artist Acrylic Paint to Use?

AcraMagentaI have used 16 oz. jars of Utrecht acrylic paint for more than 30 years, and never considered changing brands because I’ve been satisfied by the paint, it was manufactured in the USA, and I’ve had good customer service from this American owned company.  The only exception in my loyalty to that brand is that my favorite color, Acra Magenta.  I’ve had to order it in Liquitex because Utrecht did not make a color that came close to this vibrant wonderful red.  Recently, while attempting to re-order Acra Magenta, I found nothing available in the 16 oz. size.  Communicating directly with Liquitex I discovered that the name had changed again (this will be the third name change) and the newly named paint, Quinacridone Magenta, was only available in smaller 250ml tubes.

Recent difficulties with Utrecht in shipping orders to Alaska have caused me to decide to try another source for ordering and to experiment with a different brand.  After doing some research I think I will try American made Golden Acrylics.  I see they have 16 oz. sizes of Quinacridone Magenta.  I think I will experiment with Golden’s color and compare it to the last little bit left in my Liquitex jar.  Here is a link to an article that I found that examines all the brands of acrylic paint and might be useful information for other artists.  Let me know if you have experimented with other brands and how you like them.
