The Last Egg

SingleEggThe eggs have hatched and baby Red Necked Grebes are riding around on their mothers and fathers back.  The adult Grebes take turns feeding the babies.  One egg remains on the nest, abandoned.  We speculated that the adult Grebes did not feel life inside this egg, therefore leaving it to tend to the newborns.  Soon it will disappear, easy fodder for a passing eagle or hawk.  And, thus repeats the cycle of life.
