The Willow Ptarmigan, the Alaska state bird, is beautifully camouflaged its feathers change color to match the seasons.  Alaska artist Gail Niebrugge painted “Still Life”, showing this gorgeous bird as it stood stock still, blending into the landscape amid the blooming wildflower Dwarf Fireweed.

  1. This is a beautiful painting, Gail. The composition, colour, and very clever camouflage in the feathers. Love it!

  2. Thanks Noella, these birds are amazing….all white in the winter part white/brown during seasonal changes, all flecked brown in summer. The perfect camouflage.
