Exploring Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

While serving as Artist-in-Residence I flew in the park owned single engine Cessna to many interesting sites that can only be reached by small gravel and grass runways.  Here is the runway at Jake’s Bar, a beautiful spot along the Chitina River with a public use cabin. Maycreekcabin.jpg

For two days I stayed in one of the cabins at the National Park wilderness headquarters at May Creek.  Here is of one of the new public use cabins built with careful craftmanship, with securely chinked logs joined using dove tail corners.  Many years ago I painted the mail cabin at the May Creek air strip, you can see it on my website under Artist’s Journal; Bush Mail Plane.
More tomorrow,

Gail Niebrugge, Alaska Artist
