Exciting news, I am selected as one of three Artists-in-Residence at Denali National Park and Preserve for 2009! I will be staying for ten days at the East Fork Cabin from August 4 until August 13 and plan to give a public presentation or field trip sometime during my stay. The details need to be ironed out yet, I will keep you posted.
This is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to the experience.

Gail Niebrugge (Knee-brew-ghe) born and raised in California has pursued art since childhood, winning a poster contest on the Johnny Jet television show at the age of twelve. Gail began her career as an illustrator for the US Navy and Marines in San Diego, and later established the Instructional Media Center for the Grossmont High School District in La Mesa, California. Wikipedia defines pointillism as; "a style of painting in which small distinct points of primary colors create the impression of a wide selection of secondary and intermediate colors." It goes on to say that the mind and the eye mix the color spots into a full range of tones and that it is closely related to Divisionism. Divisionism was practiced by Georges Seurat during the Neo-Impressionism period. He broke his color into basic elements and painted very small and regular dots. His dots are carefully placed as to not touch each other, so the white under painted canvas shows around all of the dots. Congratulations, Gail! I have heard about the artists-in-residence opportunities at Denali National Park, and that is indeed a wonderful acknowledgement and honour.
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful day in Denali N.P. at the end of October 2005 and took the shuttle bus to Wonder Lake. What an experience of a lifetime!
I will wait with excitement to read of your experiences staying there in August.

Thanks. Denali is a magical place. The opportunity to spend 10 continuous days will give me the chance to watch the habits of the animals and the changes in the landscape. I won’t have internet connection while there, so my daily blog posts will be made afterward.
