The largest building at May Creek served as the central kitchen, sleeping quarters and gathering place for the brush clearing volunteers. The guys cooked pancakes for everyone on the last day.
Volunteers spent the morning clearing brush from the airstrip at Jake’s Bar, and I was able to gather further research on the public use cabins, cache, and gorgeous scenery at the location alongside the Chitina River. Here I am on the left with Barbara Tipton and Janelle Eklund, tired and happy enjoying the sun. Afterward, I flew back to Mc Carthy to spend the rest of my Artist-in-Residence at the Kennicott.
