Mosaic Designs Find a Life of Their Own

After a full day of smashing tile, pottery, and dishes into hundreds of irregular shapes I begin to find colors to use in my mosaic creation.  We really scored with the border tiles of flowers (oops I see the bottom right horizontal one is upside down).  These will go along the sides of the concrete bench seat, I still need to cut some tiles to fit in some of the empty spaces.  I’m not satisfied with the light green tile for the big tree, and the grey tiles in the distant mountains.  They are thicker than the other pieces in the composition, and the light green color of the tree blends in too much.  This design is still sitting on top of my drawing on kraft paper.  I’m scratching my head as to how to successfully transfer all these pieces to the mortar on the bench top.  We are waiting for a delivery of sticky polyester mesh on which we plan to re-assemble our tiles then gently slide it on top of mortar.  At least this is our plan at the moment, I’m hoping it is sticky enough to hold these heavy tiles.  I’m sure some of the elements of the pattern will change as I make the transfer, it is an evolving process.

Looking at both compositions I see mine is very busy, I used flowered pottery, glass beads, stones, plain and patterned tile, and is in stark contrast to Carol’s linear, carefully planned arrangement (still in progress).  We are having fun, I’ll post the next phase of this project in a few days.
