Early Niebrugge Art Shows in Alaska Galleries

HouseOfWoodFairbanks03Photo of artist Gail with owner of the House of Wood, Donna Wood, in Fairbanks in 2003.  Donna gave Gail her first show in Fairbanks in the early 1980’s and became one of her most valued gallery operators.  She continued showing at the House of Wood until Donna retired. WaterfrontGalleryJuneau91Niebrugge at Waterfront Gallery in Juneau for the annual Christmas Gallery Walk in 1991.  Gail was represented by Waterfront Gallery until it closed, many galleries closed during this period in Juneau when international cruise ship vendors were willing to pay higher rents to sell jewelry and T-shirts, and drove art galleries out of the market.  WillowHerbMtnDepot93One of Gail’s favorite gift shops was the Willow Herb Mountain Depot in McCarthy, Alaska, owned by Terry and Dee Fraidy.  At first they operated out of a beautiful hand hewn log cabin along the McCarthy road, later they rented a space near the historic Kennicott Mine.  The photo above shows Gail outside the log cabin shop in 1993.ScanlonGalleryKetchikanBob and Gail at Scanlon Gallery in Ketchikan, Alaska sometime around 1998.  The artist is represented by this gallery for more than 30 years.
