Wet Summer Brings Mushroom Bonanza

GrotesqueMushrooms.jpg

The constant rain and cloud cover this summer has produced a bonanza growth of mushrooms in our yard. The other day I decided to photograph them and found many old, ugly, grotesquely shaped fungus. The photo above is one of the weirdest pair that emerged. I found every kind of mushroom imaginable, from tiny white ones no more than an inch wide, to these big brownish/orange monsters that are 6-8″ across and equally as tall. Unfortunately, most of them are not edible and some are quite poisonous.

More tomorrow,

    I love how many kinds of mushrooms there are up here, especially with such a wet summer. Too bad we can’t eat them all (safely, that is)! This pair is quite whimsically wonderful. :)

    Hi DHT;

    These are only two of several dozen strange, weirdly shaped mushrooms growing in my yard this year. I photographed most of them. They defy description, and no one would believe it if I were to use them as a subject for a painting, people would think I didn’t know how to paint a mushroom. Sometimes a photo says it best.

    Thanks,

    Gail
