Time to Harvest the Garden

Bob digging potatoes from the raised beds in our garden.
I’ve been painting non-stop for several weeks and watching out my studio windows for a day without rain to go to the garden and finish the harvest. All I’ve seen is steady rain, and the color of the landscape change from lush green to the gorgeous golds of fall. The thermometer is dipping as well, no frost yet, but we’ve been saved by the heavy cloud cover. Any day now it will clear, and with the clearing will come big frosts. So, yesterday I decided to harvest in spite of the rain.

Me with a bucket full of brussels sprouts.
Bob kindly helped me and I am glad, because it was cold and wet and would have taken twice as long! It was worth the wait. Our garden produced a bounty of sweet-tasting fresh potatoes, and nearly a 5 gallon bucket of brussels sprouts. Dinner last night consisted of every kind of vegetable, baked, broiled, steamed, and nuked! Nothing compares to garden-fresh produce. By the time we finished blanching and freezing everything, it was very late. I’m getting a slow start this morning, but I’m back at the easel again. And grateful for a productive garden.
