Pointillism Detail 8

Blackburn1.jpg

Above is a close up of the Kennicott Mine painting showing Mt. Blackburn and the distant sky. I am planning to repaint the finished sky. Work on the mountain will be saved until the painting is almost complete, what you see is the underpainting.

Repainting the sky is done as shown in my previous blog entry Detail 7, the dots are lighter at the edge of the horizon gradually darkening to the top of the canvas. Something to remember when using pointillism, if the values of the dots are the same any color can be used side by side. Be aware that complimentary colors can lessen the intensity of the overall look, for that reason I’m using an analogous palette to see if this gives the impact I want.

More tomorrow.
