Local Soldier Killed in Action
Mixed emotions this week. One of the families in our church received word that their son, Shane Woods, was killed in action. His Humvee was hit by a road side bomb. Shane was an example for all young people today, he was God fearing, hard working and extremely dedicated to his country.
The members of our church, St. John Lutheran, Palmer, Alaska, are working together to help the family face their grief. Meals are being prepared daily and delivered to the family. Other members are working on plans to feed the huge crowd expected for the funeral Friday, August 18, 11:00 AM. The services will be held at the Palmer Baptist Church, it was determined that it had the largest capacity of any church in the area. The family insisted that the services be held in a church, not a public building, because of Shane’s beliefs.
Friday will be a day of mourning, and celebration, for Shane expressed his love of God and his strong belief in service for our country only four days before he was killed. Life is not fair. Why does someone so good, so pure and fine have to die at such a young age, when so many selfish, thoughtless people live on and on? God Bless Shane Woods and his fine family.
