New Mini Original Painting

Tiltinghilton.jpg

Tilting Hilton 6″ x 8″ mini original acrylic and watercolor painting in pointillism.

My goal is to have a few miniature originals available at our rapidly approaching Open House, October 20-21. This is a painting of the tippy outhouse that served us while we lived in Caribou Cabin along the Klutina River in Copper Center, Alaska. This building was the subject of much discussion and many jokes. I’ve waited until the last minute to finish these minis, hopefully Bob will have enough time to frame them.

Three Moose Visit Niebrugge Studio

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Guestmoose.jpg

This morning while I was in the kitchen getting ready to drive to Anchorage for the Make it Alaskan Show, something outside the window caught my eye. I looked up and saw three moose ambling across the back lawn. Fortunately they didn’t find anything of interest to eat in my yard, but my guess is that they enjoyed a great feast from my neighbors apple trees. I’m glad they didn’t find my garden this summer.

Gail signs the Seward Mural

Signingmural.jpg

New photos to share. Here I am doing a giant signature with big fat unruly brushes on the wildflower mural in Seward. I didn’t have my brushes, so I improvised. Later in the day it rained cats and dogs, I hope the signature didn’t bleed all over the mural. Anyway, it was really fun to see the finished product.

More tomorrow.

Green Aurora Cross Stitch

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Greenauroracrossstitch.jpg

Another complex cross stitch designed by Evelyn Harvison of North Pole, Alaska, based on the original painting “Green Aurora” by Gail Niebrugge.

Evelyn sent this photo to me in 1999 after completing the design. I have not had to pleasure to see the finished product in person. She shared the pattern with other “cross stitch fanatics”, a name she coined for anyone willing enough to try a complex project. If anyone knows how to obtain a copy of her charts, contact me. I will forward the information to interested parties.

SketchingCC.jpg

My first assignment as Artist-in-Residence for the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park was to teach a workshop about sketching in the field. The sun blessed us as we walked and sketched along the bluff trail overlooking the Copper River with views of the Wrangell Mountains. We pursued three points of view; finding compositions in the distance, middle ground and up-close. (more…)

Fun Show at Art Shop Gallery, Homer, Alaska

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Gail & Karin.jpg

Gail and Karin Marks, owner of the Art Shop Gallery in Homer, relax after a successful show.  Karin, always the perfect hostess, prepared a delicious dinner afterward for the gallery staff, family and friends.  It was a wonderful day.  The weather in Homer was beautiful, sunny but not too hot, just the way I like it!  We drove to Homer after watching the Mt. Marathon Race on the 4th of July in Seward.  Our son, famous photographer Ron, announced the women’s race from a flatbed truck on Main Street.  What a hoot!

New Mini Print “Cow with Calf”

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Cowwithcalf.jpg

This popular image Cow with Calf is now available in an open edition mini print, image size 5.25″x8″, printed on acid free paper and signed by the artist, priced at $22.00 US. This image was reproduced from a painting commissioned by the State of Alaska Per Cent for Art Program for the Teeland Middle School Library, Wasilla, Alaska. Moose are abundant in the Matanuska Valley, and can be seen almost daily in the early morning or late evening in meadows and marshes alongside roads. One of the biggest hazzards an urban moose faces today is being hit by a vehicle. If a moose is encountered along the shoulder of the road the wise driver slows to a stop, because 50% of the time the moose will walk directly on to the road in front of the vehicle rather than run into the woods.
