Friday, November 24th, 2006

Our inertia for packing for another exhibit has slowed down a bit now that our bellies are full of fabulous turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin pie.  Nevertheless, we find ourselves readying for our last show of the season the Colony High School Christmas Bazaar, Saturday, November 25, 10:00AM-5:00PM, in Palmer, AK. We’re off to Fairbanks, no Rest for the Weary.

Monday, November 6th, 2006

The temperatures have plummeted, it was zero this morning. Winter has finally reached the Matanuska Valley. We are packing for our next show at the Carlson Center this weekend in Fairbanks. The drive should be spectacular if the weather stays the way it is today, clear and cold. The roads are reported to be dry and the landsape is at its peak of beauty under a layer of fresh snow. One of best parts of the Fairbanks show can be the drive, it can also be the trip from Hell if the weather turns bad. (more…)

We had a fun day at the Mat Su Marketplace talking art and telling stories about my thirty years of painting Alaska. I especially enjoyed talking to young people who are taking art classes in school and explaining my technique of pointillism.

Niebrugge Studio helpers Faye Palin and Stacie Stigar help Jim Hemsath with a purchase at the Open House last weekend.  Hundreds of collectors visited the studio/residence of artist Gail Niebrugge and were able to choose from a large collection of original paintings and fine art prints.  Gail’s husband Bob was on hand to give tips on framing and matting fine artwork, and a good time was had by all.

“Musk Ox” Pen/ink drawing ©Niebrugge

I always enjoy visiting the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer, Alaska, and am particularly fond of watching the babies.  These animals have an interesting behavior, they tend to group together standing very close to one another side by side all in a row.  This drawing is now offered in an open edition print at $19.00 US each.  Call or email to order (907)746-3256.

Sunshine at the Alaska State Fair

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Sunday the sun finally appeared and sun starved Alaskans turned out by the thousands to play at the Alaska State Fair. Our booth in the Raven Hall was jammed almost all day. As late as 8:00 in the evening cars were still lined up to get into the parking lots, the day was so nice that people didn’t seem to care that they only had two hours until the Fair closed.

On my drive home I saw a spectacular sunset typical of this time of the year. I don’t recommend watching the sky and driving at the same time, but the intensity of color and the hazy golden glow of sun shining through distant rain showers is something I want to remember and use in a future painting. The sunsets in Alaska are like none other and people who have not had the good fortune to see one are missing something very special. I have to get ready for my booth at the Fair today, hope to see you there!
