Last Day at the Alaska State Fair 2007

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Tonight we tear down our booth and pack it into the cargo trailer and will park it in the big Niebrugge Studio storage garage, and tomorrow I will re-hang the remaining framed art at the studio. The booth equipment stays in the trailer ready for the next show, the Valley Friday Invitational at Mat-Su College, Palmer, a one day event September 28. After Bob completes new framing orders and replaces the framed art that was sold, we will load the artwork back into the trailer just before the next show. With both of us working together our system is quite efficient. I am very fortunate to have a mate who helps me in the art business. It is a comfortable, satisfying partnership and a nice way to make a living doing things that we enjoy.

Alaska State Fair Poster 2002

State Fair.jpg

Original painting by artist Gail Niebrugge for the 2002 Alaska State Fair Poster.

Yesterday I had several requests to sign copies of the poster I created for the 2002 fair, titled “Its Bloomin’ Fun”. One booth, the Cornucopia, has a collection of 20-25 posters from past years all framed and hung on the walls and ceiling inside their tiny building. The staff was so sweet to me, after signing my poster they offered me a choice of any of their excellent ice cream treats. I just had to have almond praline ice cream in a waffle bowl dipped in chocolate with two spoons and lots of napkins. Even though ice cream is not on our diet, Bob and I ate every last delicious bite. Fair food is absolutely decadent and necessary!

Local Paper Missed My Art Booth

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Gailfairbooth.jpg

Gail in the Niebrugge Studio Booth at the Alaska State Fair in Raven Hall standing below an original watercolor painting “Wildflowers”.

This morning I opened the local paper, Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, and read the front page article about artists and art at the Alaska State Fair to find that every booth was mentioned but mine! How disappointing! This is devastating for my booth, with the big weekend approaching, readers will not expect to find me at the fair. It is unfortunate that the writer did not do his/her homework. We really are at the fair this year, in the Raven Hall, stop and say hello!

Flower Gardens at the Fair

Fairflowers.jpg

Sunshine, warm temperatures, finger potatoes and flowers highlighted Saturday for me at the Alaska State Fair.  I took a few minutes away from our booth at the Raven Hall to enjoy the gorgeous flower gardens.  The head gardener, Becky, is a genius at cultivating annuals and perennials that bloom in late August and the gardens are spectacular this year.  Be sure to check out the vegetables by the main office at the Red Gate.

Yesterday traffic was a challenge, one customer reported that it took two hours from Wasilla to the fairgrounds in the afternoon.  Another report had traffic backed up solid from Three Bears Market on the Palmer/Wasilla Highway all the way through downtown Palmer and the side street Chugach.  Here is a tip; traffic was minimal in the morning, so come early.  Today is another gorgeous sunny day and the crowds will be heavy.  If you are coming from Wasilla later in the day, consider the longer route via Trunk Rd. to Palmer Fishook, to the Glenn Hwy and take the back roads through downtown Palmer.  Avoid the Glenn Hwy. and the Palmer/Wasilla Hwy.  Good luck.  I’ve got to get going, our booth opens at 10:00AM.  See you there!

Fun Show at Art Shop Gallery, Homer, Alaska

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Gail & Karin.jpg

Gail and Karin Marks, owner of the Art Shop Gallery in Homer, relax after a successful show.  Karin, always the perfect hostess, prepared a delicious dinner afterward for the gallery staff, family and friends.  It was a wonderful day.  The weather in Homer was beautiful, sunny but not too hot, just the way I like it!  We drove to Homer after watching the Mt. Marathon Race on the 4th of July in Seward.  Our son, famous photographer Ron, announced the women’s race from a flatbed truck on Main Street.  What a hoot!

Karen Snead, owner of the newly remodeled Sassafras Cafe downtown Anchorage, Alaska, is pictured with “Fireweed Meadow” one of the many Gail Niebrugge art prints that decorate the cafe’s beautifully colored walls. Conveniently located across the street from Nordstroms, this is THE place for a lovely lunch, light snack or coffee. I am proud to have my work represented at Sassafras.

CHSBazaar.jpg
Customers in the Niebrugge Studio Booth.

The Christmas Bazaar was a one-day whirlwind with setting up, tearing down and doing the show all in the same day! But, it was very doable with the willing help of the wonderful students of Colony High School. Bob and I were very impressed with the school and the organization of this excellent event. (more…)

Colony High School Christmas Bazaar

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Our inertia for packing for another exhibit has slowed down a bit now that our bellies are full of fabulous turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin pie.  Nevertheless, we find ourselves readying for our last show of the season the Colony High School Christmas Bazaar, Saturday, November 25, 10:00AM-5:00PM, in Palmer, AK. We always look forward to three days at the very well attended Fairbanks Holiday Marketplace at the Carlson Center. We love catching up with our friends and collectors sharing news, showing new art prints and original paintings. It was a busy, busy show. (more…)

We’re off to Fairbanks, no Rest for the Weary.

Monday, November 6th, 2006

The temperatures have plummeted, it was zero this morning. Winter has finally reached the Matanuska Valley. We are packing for our next show at the Carlson Center this weekend in Fairbanks. The drive should be spectacular if the weather stays the way it is today, clear and cold. The roads are reported to be dry and the landsape is at its peak of beauty under a layer of fresh snow. One of best parts of the Fairbanks show can be the drive, it can also be the trip from Hell if the weather turns bad. (more…)

Open House Success

Open House.jpg

Niebrugge Studio helpers Faye Palin and Stacie Stigar help Jim Hemsath with a purchase at the Open House last weekend.  Hundreds of collectors visited the studio/residence of artist Gail Niebrugge and were able to choose from a large collection of original paintings and fine art prints.  Gail’s husband Bob was on hand to give tips on framing and matting fine artwork, and a good time was had by all.
