Alaska Governor’s Awards for Arts

Thursday night I had the pleasure of attending the Alaska State Council on the Arts Governor’s Awards banquet at the Hotel Captain Cook downtown Anchorage, Alaska. I was thrilled to be seated at a table with two of the founders of the state constitution and the award winner for Lifetime Achievement in art, not to mention I sat next to my friend and fantastic artist Dot Bardarson of Seward, Alaska! It was a wonderful evening with heartfelt speeches by the winners. Pictured above left to right is Polly Lee from Petersburg, Alaska, the winner of the Lifetime Achievement award, Vic Fischer and Katie Hurley who helped write the constitution for our state of Alaska. It is an honor to be able to know people who had such an impact on our young state, we just celebrated our 50th year of statehood this year! What an awesome evening. I am humbled.

Truly awesome, Gail. I think I have mentioned before that meeting Dot Bardardson in her studio in Seward was a highlight of our first trip to Alaska in 1998. I love her art and have some small reproductions.
