Seward Mural Facts

Here is the current information regarding my proposed mural for a building (not yet selected) in Seward this year. The Seward Mural Society sponsors this project, it is called the 2006 “Mural in a Day”, and it is painted during the Seward Music and Arts Festival, September 23-24 at the Alaska Railroad Terminal in Seward, Alaska. Is the Swallow Incubating Eggs?

I did a little reading on the nesting habits of Tree Swallows and discovered that a swallow will stay on the nest even if the eggs have been destroyed. After the Magpie attack of last week I felt relieved to see the swallow back in the box sitting on the nest. But after reading this new information I’m beginning to wonder if their are any eggs in the nest box. (more…)

Rock Pile

Tomorrow the landscaper arrives with his bulldozer and will shape and mold our uneven dirt yard into a smooth gradual slope down to the lake, finished with a rich 4″ of topsoil. Before he can begin we agreed to remove all the big rocks. So, today we dug out big rocks and stockpiled them along an unused edge of the yard. (more…)

Busy Nesting Time

We have spotted many nesting waterfowl along the shores of our lake. It is such a joy to watch the birds and ducks as they go about the daily business of incubating eggs and feeding themselves. (more…)

Dozers and Topsoil Monday

Everything is happening at once. After waiting six weeks for the excavator, without notice today the bulldozer, roller, and backhoe arrived and after twenty loads of pit run gravel we have a pad for the storage garage. Saturday the cement mason will put in the garage slab. And, Monday the landscaper promised he would be here with his small dozer and multiple loads of topsoil! I am so happy to see things finally happening in the yard. (more…)

The Return of the Magpie

We were having an ordinary day, I was working on an art project and my husband was in and out with some framing jobs. He frames my art. It was raining lightly and no one was on the lake, just a lovely quiet summer day in Alaska. (more…)
