Austin, Music and Food

During the busy NASAA convention in Austin, Texas, the Texas Commission on the Arts provided special flavors and entertainment breaks with performances by soprano Alicia Gianni, zydeco accordionist Keyun Dickson, musical actors from Austin’s ZACH Theater, we were entertained at lunch by Mariachi Los Gallos, and another luncheon serenade by two incredible violinists sponsored by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, ending up with a solo performance at the closing session by bass player and singer Esperanza Spaulding.

After hours the staff of Western States Arts Federation hosted a reception for state arts council members, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies reserved tables at a local eatery where Mary Begier chair of Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts joined me in ordering a special chili relleno creation by the chef, and we enjoyed our time during the opening reception held at the unique and lively Buffalo Billiards.  Our time was booked from dawn until well beyond dusk.
