Gail Niebrugge at the Alaska Governor’s Awards for the Arts
When Alaska artist Gail Niebrugge was informed that she was the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Artist 2012, she was totally floored. Niebrugge had no idea that she was nominated or even being considered. All parties involved kept everything a huge secret. The mystery was solved when long-time friend and neighbor from Copper Center, Alaska, Sue Zajac called and said “are you sitting down?” Unbeknown to Gail, Sue submitted her name and an application to the Alaska State Council on the Arts months before for the award, and everyone involved kept the secret until a week before the ceremony. Gail is humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity of the council and the governor, and the friendship of fellow artist Sue. Pictured above are Sue and Gail during the awards celebration at the Captain Cook hotel, Anchorage, Alaska. A big Thank you to everyone!
